| Meet Dr. Diane Hourigan |
| Dr. Hourigan started her career in dentistry as a dental assistant for her family dentist. With his encouragement, she went back to college and was accepted into dental school, graduating from the University of Nebraska Medical College of Dentistry in 1981. She associated in a practice in Shelton, Nebraska and at the same time, taught in the dental assisting program for a local community college. In 1983, she purchased a practice in Kearney, Nebraska where she practiced until 1994 when she moved to California. In Santa Barbara, California, she was the first clinical director and dentist of Carrillo Community Dental Clinic, a non-profit clinic formed to serve underprivileged children. She also worked part time for several local dentists and was a consultant for Fortune Practice Management. In 1998, Dr. Hourigan moved to North Carolina and associated with a group practice until she bought her current practice in 2001. She has studied under Dr. David Hornbrook at the Pacific Aesthetic Continuum in San Francisco, studied occlusion under Dr. Pete Dawson at the Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Study in St. Petersburg, Florida and has had introductory study of the temporomandibular joint under Dr. Mark Piper, also in St. Petersburg. She is a member of the American Dental Society, the North Carolina Dental Association, the Durham- Orange County Dental Society and the John Hansel Multidisciplinary Study Club. Her interests are travel, music and ......NEBRASKA FOOTBALL!! When asked what she likes most about dentistry, her response was, " What is most important to me is the relationship I have with my patients. At the end of my life, while I want to be proud of my dental work, I also want to know that I was not just fixing a bunch of teeth, but creating friendships with a whole family of patients. It's the relationship with my patients and my staff that makes me want to come to work." |
