What to expect on your first visit
Your first visit is used to gather information about your health and your teeth. We usually
will expose a full series of x-rays of the individual teeth and a panoramic film of your jaws.
We discuss your headache history, examine the relationship between your jaws and your
teeth, examine your jaw joints, check for oral cancer, tumors and cysts, check for gum
disease, and of course, check for decay. We also spend some time exploring what is
important to you and identify dental symptoms that may seem normal to you but could be
a sign of something more serious. We take your blood pressure and discuss any medical
issues you may have that could impact your dental health. If we have time, we then
formulate a treatment plan and discuss financing options. In the event that more time is
needed to develop a treatment plan, we will schedule a consultation appointment. Please
note, in the majority of cases we do not clean your teeth at this first appointment. Since
there is no way of knowing if you have gum disease or not, we prefer to examine you
thoroughly first and then schedule the appropriate time for your cleaning. Also note that if
you have had a complete series of x-rays within the last three to five years, we will not
retake the complete series but merely update some of them. It is helpful if you can have
any prior x-rays and treatment notes sent to us before your visit. When you arrange to
have your records transferred, you will probably have to sign a release of records at your
last dental office.
Please allow at least an hour and a half for this initial visit.
“Thank you for making my
first visit so nice and so
comfortable. It was a good
experience.” -Vickie G.
Insurance If you have insurance, we will help you to determine the coverage you have available. Professional care is provided to you, our patient, and not to an insurance company. Thus, the insurance company is responsible to the patient and patients are responsible to the doctor. We will help in every way we can in filing your claim and handling insurance questions from our office on your behalf.
